Current Position: Assistant Professor in the School of Civic Life and Leadership at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Danielle Charette James is a political theorist and assistant professor in the University of North Carolina’s School of Civic Life and Leadership. She’s currently finishing a book focused on themes of war and revolution in David Hume. Previously she taught in the Politics Department at the University of Virginia, where she served as associate director of the Program on Constitutionalism and Democracy.
Undergraduate education: B.A. in English Literature, Swarthmore College, 2014
Interests: Civic republicanism and its legacy, David Hume, Machiavelli, the Scottish Enlightenment, eighteenth-century commerce and society, politics and literature
Dissertation title: “David Hume's Imperfect Commonwealth" (completed 2021)
